Why we did not select Molly and Friends “Tunnel of Fun” Premium Handmade 3-Tier Cat Tree with Sisal, Model 243, Beige?
You might be surprised to find that the list does not contain the infamous Molly and Friends “Tunnel of Fun”. Well, it is true that many people have bought it over the years. However, we have found a couple of safety and quality issues around the product. Don’t get us wrong it is an awesome cat tree, the thing is that after digging into the product’s costumers reviews we found complaints such as:

“Easily the best cat tower I’ve ever seen, but shoddy stapling raises safety concerns that just can’t be overlooked.”

“I’m pretty disappointed that I spent so much money on something …”

Our Top Picks For 2017

1) Go Pet Club Cat Tree Furniture Beige

It is a great cat tree for one cat but, platforms may be a little small and light-weight for several or more pet cats and even very large cats. Assembly is straight forward taking less than 1/2 an hour. I suggest putting the 3 lower posts on first, then attach the house to the rectangular platform and then place it the 3 posts. The front, lower round platform joins with two screws to lower front post and the rear (higher) round platform is attached with a screw at the top of housing platform. Finally, attach the stairs with the angled connector to the base of the house and the screw hole on the back of the stairs.

Pros

  • Assembling is very easy, hardly takes any time.
  • Instructions mentioned in the manual are very clear.
  • Easily affordable.
  • Comes in a nice color.

Cons

  • The ropes and carpet fell a bit cheap.
  • The platforms are rather small. Cannot be used for a big cat.
  • Overall, it is light weight for two or more cats.

Our Take

Overall, it is a very nice space saver cat tree. Minor drawbacks are the platforms, whice  are quite small and the carpet and wood is don’t feel that robust. When assembled securely, it should stand the most playful cats. No lions or tigers!

The tree, standing at a height of 47.5 inches, has a wider base compared to height and will hold your havoc wrecking fury friend right in place. The wide base also makes it suitable for more than one cat to climb on.

Vertical Space Is Key

Cats enjoy very much resting on top of raised structures. This is why you’ll find cats on rooftops, up in tree branches, and fences in their normal outdoor environment. If you get them their own place of comfort up high on the wall, you will make them happy felines.
In case you have a timid pet cat, you can understand when I say they jet under the furniture around for safety when they see a visitor entering your home. Buying your cat a special tree for it wil Inspire it’s confidence, by creating a private space for it high up. When the cats’ are in this type of environment, they can be able to observe almost everything and relax in the sense that nobody can show up there and surprise them.
Studies shows that vertical space is essential for cats since they have a natural instinct for climbing high up. Even though pet cats are used to living indoors, they still enjoy jumping on tall shelves or just resting on a tall piece of furniture. So even if you clear up an unused shelf for them to enjoy, you’b be satisfying their need for heights, but then again – having a cat tree of their own could be much more interesting for them. Cat trees could create a lot more vertical space for your cat, making it a far better choice compared to any empty shelf. There will, of course be added benefits to this new piece of furniture – it will keep your cat’s claws away from your furniture and challenge it to a nice workout, each time it feels curious and energetic.

When considering which cat tree you should get for your pet cat, there are some things you have to keep in mind:

  • Base

First of all, a cat tree base should be sturdy so that it can keep your kitten from wobbling when it is trying to climb. If your pet will have an experience of the tree falling on it , it may never get near it again. In addition, there are also chances of injury when climbing a wobbly tree. Even though smaller trees can be suitable if your pet is small, it is good to plan ahead for her growth and you may want to go for anything that weighs between 7 and 20 pounds (depends on what breed you cat is). Plan ahead and be sure to go for the appropriate model.

  • Different surfaces

When you decide to look for cat trees, it is advisable to choose the one with scratching and sitting surfaces at various levels, so that your cat can relax itself in-between plays. You can also check whether there is space for hanging toys. There are even some models that come with toys hanging on them already ,making them more interesting for the animals to explore.

  • Catnip

Catnip is a plant that has a strong smell and can attract cats to a great extent. So, to attract your cat near the tree you bought it, you can spread some catnip on the tree base.

  • Be a Smart Consumer

Before deciding which cat tree to buy, the best thing you can do is to visit an online store selling different models of trees. Determine your budget before making your selection and choose the appropriate furniture for your pet accordingly.

  • How much weight can a cat tree support?

Usually, the average weight limit is 50 pounds (way more than enough, unless you’re raising a little tiger). Some manufacturers say they have a 30-pound limit, which could also serve a large feline. You should read the tech specs for each product and make sure it will fit your cat. All products reviewed here are well built, but some may be more suitable for different sized pets.

  • Will there be room for all my cats?

One of the greatest advantages of kitty trees is that they can be used by multiple felines. You don’t need to have many separate cat trees because large trees provide enough space for several pets. Depending on size, of couse, all your cats will be able to play, climb, scratch and sleep on the same cat tree. This is very beneficial for you because it saves you both money and space. In case you have only one feline, you can choose a smaller cat tree where your cat can have lots of fun.

The best about cat trees is that they are offered in a great variety of sizes, colors, styles and prices. This allows you to choose one that suits your needs and preferences.

  • Do most cat trees suit large cats as well? Are they sturdy enough?

When shopping around for a tree for large cats, start reading reviews of cat furniture while searching for the material used to construct the tree structure. A massive cat tower should have posts manufactured from actual timber and not cardboard or particle board. The timber will last longer and be less wobbly or prone to collapse. Wooden posts can also support the tree’s frame when it comes to the weight of numerous large cats clinging to it and jumping around the tree parts.

Take Your Time And Go over All The Detials

Before putting the tree together, make sure to use all bolts and screws to hold all parts together. Some trees are assembled using glue or nails. which may not be as effective at preserving a large cat tree with large cats on it for very long.

Cat trees for large cats ought to also have some sort of protecting cover on the bottom base. Usually, there will be some sort of carpet or faux fur. This helps prevent your hardwood floor under the tree base from being scratched, should the tree slide over your floor. I f you happen to have carpets or tiles on your floor,  then even if the cat tree does slide over your floor, no mark will be left.

There are some features that a cat tree made for massive cats should have. It is better if cat perches for large cats aren’t simple flat platforms. It makes it too easy for their legs to dangle off, possibly causing falls or pulled leg muscles for your feline. Looks for trees with perches or which are U-shaped and might cradle the cat or have some sort of facets around the platform to make the platform less slippery for your cat.

  • How durable are cat trees in general?

It’s very common to have furniture that you would like to maintain for as long as possible – and in good form. Furthermore, I am positive tha every cat owner loves their feline and wishes to provide it with the best care and high quality products. This is why every cat owner should get a cat tree for their lovely kitty.
As long as the cat tree you get is made out of quality materials, Your cat will stay happy and away from your furniture.

Is the cat tree you are looking for made of wood or compressed wood? Is the fur covering the platforms durable enough? Are the sisal ropes covering the posts strong or of cheap make? Make sure that you know what you are getting, so you can be quiet you get a long lasting product, which you can make the most out of.

  • Don’t settle

The great variety of cat trees gives you the opportunity to choose the color, style, and design of the the product. This is very useful because it allows you to select a cat tree that matches the design in your home. There is no doubt that your felines will be happy to have there own cat furniture because it will provide them with some good space to play, climb and scratch. You will also be happier because your pet won’t scratch your furniture anymore.

Getting a pet cat tree online is very easy and convenient. All you have to do is choose a tree from the great variety you can find online. It is recommended to purchase a cat tree that is made of natural materials, such as wood and sisal. To protect your beloved pet from allergies and other health problems, choose a cat tree that doesn’t contain any synthetic materials and glues. Remember that larger cat trees are suitable for several cats, while smaller ones can be used by one or two felines.

So before you invest in a cat tree make sure that:

  • It is weighted on the bottom.
  • If needed, it can be taken apart, reassembled and still be steady.
  • The producer has a reputation for making high-quality products.
  • There is a return policy, just in case it ends up not fitting your needs.
  • You can get good customer service in case you have any issues.
