We’re All About Cats are in constant search for feline inspiration across the web and this time we have something really cool for you guys, ProtectaPet is a innovating new product designed to keep you cat safe. So we caught up with Communications Director Eve Davies to hear more about one of the most useful cat products you guys should definitely pay attention to in the near future.
Q1: Please introduce yourself to our community
I’m Eve Davies, Communications Director at ProtectaPet, and purrent to two Norweigan Forest Cats. I am also guardian to two moggies who have retired from the hectic household of young children to my parents’ house where they can lounge around to their hearts’ content without fear of being boshed with a feather cat toy (the NFC’s are, on the contrary, grateful for this kind of playful attention).
Q2: What was the inspiration behind ProtectaPet?
In 2009, Simon and I very sadly lost our cat, Lola in a RTA. We were determined not to let her brother, Leo, reach the same fate and so Simon designed a cat bracket that would enable him to come and go from the garden without wandering any further. The peace of mind was an overwhelming relief and before we knew it, other people wanted Simon to fit the brackets in their garden too. As we’ve cat-proofed gardens of all sizes and complexities over the years, we’ve developed a range of modular components that can be used to build catios, freestanding cat enclosure fencing and tree barriers. It is amazing to think that there are over 2,000 cat proofed gardens in the UK alone now and many thousands of cats who have been kept safe with our designs.
Q3: What do you like most about working with pets?
Every day is different – no two owners, cats or gardens are the same! Perhaps the best side of the job are the remarkable people and animals you meet: very generous hearted people with a lot of love and dedication to give. We’ve been highly commended ‘cat product I can’t live without’ for four consecutive years by readers of Your Cat Magazine and it was really touching when Katie at Bradford Cat Watch and Rescue Kittens named some of the rescued kittens after our team members!
Q4: What do you have planned for ProtectaPet in the future?
Fifty years ago dogs wandered the streets in Britain and a gradual cultural shift has seen the compulsory microchipping of dogs and legislation to increase responsibilities of dog ownership. We envisage that as roads become busier and cat territories become more densely populated, cat owners will increasingly look for ways to keep their beloved pets safe from the dangers of free roaming. We think that controlled outdoor territories offers the best solution to cat owners and we’re working to make our cat containment solution available to everyone.
